ALL-Tag sells its EAS labels to product manufacturers who apply them to goods before shipping them to stores. EAS labels are a pass-fail application, triggering scanners at store entrances if customers don’t pay for goods and clerks don’t deactivate sensors or remove labels.

Expanding into new markets with a domestic supplier

ALL-Tag, the second largest RF sensor label manufacturer in the world, was originally based in Manage, Belgium. When the company moved its headquarters to Boca Raton, Florida, and began building its Americas presence, it sought a domestic label supplier. Explains Sirak, “In 2011, we moved part of our manufacturing operations over here to the U.S. and two years later, centralized all of our production here. It was important to find domestic sources for label paper and adhesives.”

Sirak says ALL-Tag considered label stock manufacturers who could provide comparable products to the papers the company had used in Europe, ensure consistency with every order and guarantee delivery times. ALL-Tag also wanted to find a partner who could create custom label solutions to meet their specific business needs.

Creating a custom security label

UPM Raflatac and ALL-Tag collaborated on creating an RF security label. The antenna is sandwiched between an opaque blue thermal transfer face sheet and a 40# white kraft liner with RP51 adhesive. UPM Raflatac stocks gray and black thermal transfer sheets, but custom-designed the blue face stock for ALL-Tag.

“UPM Raflatac put a blue opaque primer on the back of our label, which made it more opaque so that you couldn’t see that there was an antenna behind it,” says Sirak. “When you peel the label off the liner, the center part of the label is cut out. You can see the blue, which reinforces our branding.”

Sirak says that UPM Raflatac also customized the transfer tape, to ensure that the liner could be seamlessly removed. “UPM Raflatac added an extra thin film layer behind the antenna that basically flattens it out and helps the adhesive peel up easily,” says Sirak.

The company’s collaboration has led to other opportunities, and ALL-Tag is now running two of UPM Raflatac’s transfer adhesives.

“It’s very easy to work with UPM Raflatac,” says Sirak. “The sales staff is really knowledgeable, and there is a seamless handoff between sales, product development and customer service. So we’ve been very happy with the experience of working with them.”

<img class="ms-rtePosition-4" src="http://assets.upmraflatac.com/Content%20images%20SOLUTIONS%20n%20SERVICES/AM/bluearrow1.png" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:35px;height:33px;font-family:"segoe ui semilight", "segoe ui", segoe, tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:1.46em;" />Learn more about our security portfolio »
