Fit for the future: UPM Raflatac well positioned after AMC acquisition in Germany

Product news 29.6.2023 16:00 EEST

After announcing the acquisition of AMC last year, we had high hopes for the future. Now, one year later, our expectations have been exceeded on many levels. Therefore, we look ahead with great optimism.

New product segments, a stronger portfolio, and greater customer proximity – an important step in being even better equipped for our customers’ needs was the acquisition of AMC AG last year with its factories in Kaltenkirchen and Hagenow in Germany. With these locations, UPM Raflatac now has a total of twelve production sites worldwide.

The new centrally located facilities bring significant advantages: they allow us to be closer to our customers in Central Europe and provide them with an even more comprehensive range of products and services. We are leveraging the synergies the acquisition provided and were able to expand our offering to new self-adhesive product lines; our new factories offer us new and attractive possibilities.

Seamless integration of factories and employees

Roughly one year since the announcement, most of the former AMC operations have been integrated into UPM Raflatac's structure and are an established part of the company. This is, to a great degree, thanks to the great collaboration of UPM Raflatac experts and the more than 300 skilled and dedicated employees working at our new sites. In view of their successful integration, we can now use this reinforcement to enhance the quality of our products and services.

Further possibilities

Intercoat, the brand for pressure sensitive label materials of the acquired AMC, offers established label solutions as well as new attractive prospects with the T7 product range. T7 label solutions are designed for household products, food packaging and oil containers as well as chemicals for domestic use. Combined with pioneering approaches for emerging digital printing technologies in the label market, the Intercoat brand delivers a solid foundation for future growth.

Our development pipeline for removable self-adhesive products like surface protection papers and sticky notes with unique properties is full. This is how we maintain our leading position in the market and continue to impress customers with our high quality and innovative solutions.

Sustainability as key priority at our factories

However, our ambition goes even further. We have taken a holistic 360° approach to sustainability starting from raw material sourcing all the way to sustainable operations, products, and services. And our label material production sites play a key role here. This means that our Kaltenkirchen and Hagenow factories will offer even more sustainably produced products for our customers in the future.

We are committed to pursue the science-based measures to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C and our German factories will be playing their part in reaching our ambitious climate targets. In practice it means increasing the use of sustainable raw materials, fostering the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and developing innovative solutions that meet the needs of sustainably minded brands and companies.

Ready for the tasks ahead

Where do we go from here? This much is certain: we will continue to successfully finalize the integration process, seize growth opportunities and further expand our product portfolio. With our product strategy fit for the future we continue developing concepts in sustainability and circular economy, offering our customers even more sustainable and innovative products and services.
