UPM Raflatac showcases sustainable labeling solutions that help reduce, recycle and renew at Labelexpo Asia 2019

Press Release 3.12.2019 0:00 EET

UPM Raflatac is currently presenting its sustainable labeling solutions at Labelexpo Asia 2019 in Shanghai New International Expo Centre. UPM Raflatac’s innovative solutions can help printers and brand owners reach beyond their sustainability goals by offering solutions to reduce, recycle and renew.

The company’s thinner and lighter film materials reduce the use of raw materials. The UPM Raflatac Raflex Pro optimizes the use of raw materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water consumption and waste. Linerless is made from FSC™-certified fibres and uses 40% less paper than comparable self-adhesive label materials. Raw materials are sourced from certified sustainably managed forests that help mitigate climate change and improve the quality of water.

The company optimizes the recycling process of plastic packages by ensuring that labels can be easily removed. The innovative UPM Raflatac Wash-off label adhesive enables the label to wash off in the PET recycling process, and therefore a clean PET flake can be recycled and is usable in manufacturing new PET plastics. UPM Raflatac Vanish™ PCR ultra-thin labels feature 90% recycled content face and liners. These thin yet strong labels help home and personal care brand owners to increase their sustainability without sacrificing performance. The RafCycle™ by UPM Raflatac recycling programme offers a new life for label waste. UPM Raflatac already has more than 150 RafCycle partners globally, and more are joining us all the time.

UPM Raflatac aims at helping reduce the use of virgin fossil raw materials by using more renewable options, such as FSC-certified paper liners and other bio-based alternatives that technically meet the needs of more demanding packaging. With innovation and intelligent solutions, more sustainable options that outperform older, less sustainable materials are now emerging. UPM Raflatac Forest Film™, the industry's first wood-based film material, uses UPM BioVerno naphtha, a 100 percent wood-based solution originating from sustainably managed forests. RAFNXT+ is the world’s first label material verified by the Carbon Trust. Compared to UPM Raflatac’s standard range, this paper label material helps companies to reduce their carbon footprint and mitigate climate change.
