Desfachatados: Labels that convey the freshness of Desfachatados Wine

This project was born by the hand of two young and experienced local winemakers in the Pedernal Valley in the Southwest region of the San Juan province located at the foot of the Andes. It is a confined valley isolated from natural pests, far from civilization, with unique climatic conditions that make its grapes perfect for this wine.

TAKEAWAYS

1. The label design conveys the freshness and explosion of sensations
that the consumer experiences when tasting a Desfachatados
wine.

2. Digital label printing technology brought to life Estudio View's
design for this wine.

3. UPM Raflatac Fleur de Coton Ice Premium-FSC offers a delicate
texture that complements the design and illustrations. Its whiteness
highlights the liveliness of the colors on the label. Additionally, the
label material performs well in humid conditions and is sourced
from certified sustainably managed forests.

Federico Riveros and Abel Chiconi, winemakers and creators of Desfachatados, developed these wines with the intention to capitalize on the freshness and potential of such a particular terrain. They wanted to show Argentina and the world what the Pedernal Valley has to offer.

Desfachatados entered the market with three wines. Their Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon express the freshness of the fruit with marked floral notes. A few touches of wood contribute to the aromatic complexity of these two wines. Their Great Malbec was the third; it contains all the important characteristics for this variety of wine. In 2021, they started producing white wines. Exploring other valleys of the San Juan province, they developed a very fresh and fruity Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

To communicate and introduce this project, Riveros and Chiconi worked together with the designer Valeria Diumenjo who directs Estudio View, a design studio with San Juan origins that specializes in wine packaging. Together they developed very unique label designs that communicate the freshness of the wines on a journey through the emblematic places of San Juan city.

The studio together with UPM Raflatac worked to choose the best option of self-adhesive material that complements the designs and performs correctly in the bottle. Converter Adhepel printed the labels on a digital press. Thanks to digital printing technology, one can appreciate the definition of original handdrawn illustrations, and the freshness and vibrancy of their colors. The silk screen varnish applied gives shine and volume to the final designs.

In such a competitive wine market, the success of this project is undoubtedly due to the excellent teamwork of the Desfachatados Winemakers, Estudio View, Adhepel, and UPM Raflatac. This team knew how to communicate the characteristics of these wines on the packaging, helping the wines to stand out on the shelf with their originality and bright colors.
