The Pentawards, the most internationally respected competition exclusively dedicated to packaging design, has unveiled UPM Raflatac as its latest big name sponsor. This is a major coup for The Pentawards, coming shortly after it announced that its hotly anticipated Gala Ceremony will be held at the Guggenheim Museum, on 6th September 2018.
UPM Raflatac is one of the leading global suppliers of sustainable high-quality, high-performance pressure sensitive label materials. As the latest sponsor of The Pentawards it will be joining a series of major names, which includes Esko, Sleever and IC3D for 2018.
Adam Ryan, Project Manager at The Pentawards, comments: “This announcement is not just the beginning of a partnership between two hugely ambitious companies, but also showcases the scale and reputation of The Pentawards. With more announcements due in the next month or two, these are really exciting times for The Pentawards, so stay tuned!”
As part of the sponsorship agreement, UPM Raflatac will present one of the awards – The Beverage Category - at the Pentawards Gala Ceremony, taking place in New York later in the year. UPM Raflatac will also host a panel discussion at the Pentawards Conference in Madrid, and will support the global tour of the Pentawards in the form of their Winner’s Exhibit.
Lee Walker-Quinn, Global Director, Business Development Wine & Spirit Labeling at UPM Raflatac, comments: “We are delighted to be working with the Pentawards. This global partnership demonstrates UPM Raflatac's commitment to develop labeling solutions that add value to the whole packaging value chain. We share a common goal with the Pentawards which is to champion design. Our innovative and sustainable label materials help bring design to life and, working in partnership with the Pentawards, we can support, advise and add value to designers and brand owners.”
The Pentawards attracts packaging from around the world, which is then judged by an international jury of 12 highly respected designers, packaging design directors and marketing chiefs. New for 2018, The Pentawards has launched a new ‘Sustainable Design' category, to recognise those designers, brands and manufacturers who are working hard to create innovative sustainable solutions that optimise the environmental performance of their packaging. This category is open to all projects, taking pack structure, materials used and production methods in consideration.
Entry for The Pentawards 2018 opens on 5th February to 23rd March.

Information about Pentawards
Created in 2007, the Pentawards is the first and most prestigious worldwide competition, devoted exclusively to packaging design. Each year, packaging from around the world is judged by an international jury of 12 highly respected designers, packaging design directors and marketing chiefs from major global brands. By participating in the Pentawards, packaging designers, design students, brand-owners and packaging producers have the opportunity to compare their creations to those from around the world.
There are five main award categories: Food, Beverages, Body, Luxury and Other Markets; these are then split into 55 sub categories. For the 2017 awards, there were 2,013 entries from 5 continents and 54 countries.
The winners receive bronze, silver, gold and platinum Pentawards. The ‘Best of the Show’ receives the unique Diamond Pentaward. Each year, trophies are awarded in a different city in Europe, Asia or the Americas, at an official ceremony which hosts hundreds of designers from around the world, and provides a unique opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.
