Catapult Print and Packaging: Creating solutions with hotmelt adhesive

Catapult Print and Packaging has challenged the status quo in label manufacturing by delivering a compelling experience to each customer.

1. Catapult noticed an opportunity in the market and collaborated with UPM Raflatac to deliver a solution

2. RH18 hotmelt adhesive enables consistent performance in demanding applications within the beverage industry and other industries.

3. Enhanced label quality gives brand owners increased confidence, which means increased business opportunities for Catapult.

They are on a mission to innovate and disrupt the label printing industry. “We have noticed that the brands who use pressure sensitive labels are not always receiving the best experience from their converter,” says Catapult CEO Mark Cook. “They are overpaying and over constructing, and we want to help them by delivering the best products, service and value.”

The converter recognized an opportunity to deliver such service when a brand was struggling with label performance. Through their partnership with UPM Raflatac, Catapult was able to address the brand’s label application challenges by switching to a label stock with a robust adhesive, RH18.

Driven by this admirable commitment, Catapult relies heavily on its suppliers to help them achieve improvements in the overall customer experience, as well as the performance of packaging. Cook points to one customer in particular – a large juice brand – that has noticed enhanced label quality thanks to collaboration with UPM Raflatac, their technical expertise, and the quality of their materials.

To enable Catapult to deliver a quality solution, UPM Raflatac’s Barry King, Senior Sales Manager South Region, recommended materials most likely to solve the juice brand’s specific problems. This included a laminate with a unique hotmelt adhesive, RH18. In addition, King assisted with trials at the brand’s facilities. “We want to make sure Catapult has the best options for their customers,” King says. “We are happy to support their efforts in any way we can.”

UPM Raflatac’s RH18 provided the needed adhesion to ensure that the juice label performs during application and in the grocer’s cooler. “The beverage industry is an ideal application for our RH18 hotmelt adhesive,” says Jason Hellman, Segment Manager, Specials SBU at UPM Raflatac. “It is especially effective for refrigerated applications where the surface is moist or if high initial adhesion is required.”

For Catapult, quality product isn’t everything. Cook also mentions the need for “true partnership and consistency in service.” He expects this not only in relationships between Catapult and their customers, but with suppliers as well. “I do not use the word ‘partner’ lightly,” he says, adding that “UPM Raflatac understands our vision and goes alongside us to earn business.”

The relationship between UPM Raflatac and Catapult demonstrates the importance of cultivating a robust and cohesive supply chain.

“We value the bold approach and technical knowledge of UPM Raflatac,” says Cook. “I trust their people to support my business by going beyond serving us with quality label material, but by supplying their packaging and sustainability expertise as well.
