If you want to be sustainable, take action

Today’s environmentally conscious customers are voting with their wallets for sustainable brands. For them, sustainability is an integrated part of company strategy and operations.

Consumer expectations are rising fast as new innovations continue to bring more ethical products to the markets. This gives the companies that take the lead in sustainability a clear advantage over competitors in their industry. It is time to examine where your company stands in this ever-tightening competition.

From reducing plastic use to net positivity

Several forward-thinking companies have already adopted sustainability as their strategy. At UPM Raflatac, our strategic targets are chosen not only to optimize our own operations, but also to bring added value to our customers.

One of our key action points is to help brand owners reduce the plastic content of their labels. For example, together with Procter & Gamble Asia Pacific we have created PE 65, the thinnest squeezable PE film label stock. Moreover, we aim for our products to re-enter the production cycle as recycled raw materials to ensure the sustainable use of resources and reduce waste. Our RafCycle™ by UPM Raflatac solution already offers more than 120 of our partners a service that collects their release liner waste and recycles it back into magazine paper, paper liner or composite material.

However, we at UPM Raflatac believe that reducing impacts alone is not enough. We want to take our efforts a step further and create net positive solutions. The materials in our UPM Raflatac RAFNXT+ range are sourced from forests that absorb twice the total CO2 emitted during the label’s lifecycle, actively enhancing natural capital. The Forest Positive concept ensures zero deforestation and benefits for climate, water and biodiversity.

It's now or never

As climate change, the impact of plastics and depletion of natural resources continue to change our planet and transform markets, the right time to take action on sustainability is now.

Our target at UPM Raflatac is to integrate sustainability through the whole value chain. We aim for circular solutions – lighter, recyclable and bio-based products that benefit both businesses and the environment. Our goal is not only to be the most sustainable and innovative label maker, but to offer our customers even more sustainable choices.

We encourage you to take your stand, too. What sustainable solutions could your organization start implementing?
