Squeezable containers make up a large percentage of the personal care market, and they bring their own unique labeling challenges. Labeling solutions must be flexible and resilient enough to survive in environments that are often damp or humid – while still being attractive and informative for consumers.
Personal care labels for these containers excellent conformability and squeezability, and they must be able to cover round and curved shapes, often with thin walls. Tube labeling in particular requires very good flexibility.
The right label for your product
Depending upon the container type and level of squeezability, UPM Raflatac recommends Raflex Plus and PE film label materials for fully squeezable containers and tubes within the personal care segment.
For example, hair conditioner containers require a higher level of squeezability due to the high viscosity of the conditioner itself. Raflex Plus is an ideal choice for conforming to these bottle types and keeping high-end products looking their very best squeeze after squeeze.
Bottles that feature a compound curve also often require full wall-to-wall squeezability based on the types of liquids or gels they normally contain. The difference here is that a full squeeze is needed at the bottom of the bottle where the curve is wider. Therefore, we recommend clear and white PE, due to the excellent flexibility and conformability of these materials.
PE is also a strong performer on round and contoured container shapes. Body, skin, and hair care products all benefit from this flexibility, as do sun care and male grooming products.
Tube labeling can present additional challenges, and tube labels must be fully squeezable. Our PE materials are highly robust, fully flexible and conformable, and will endure the heaviest of wall-to-wall squeezes.
Introducing PE 65 –
Our thinnest squeezable film with an ecodesign
Developed in partnership with Procter & Gamble Asia Pacific, our innovative, 65 micron PE film label materials are the thinnest additions to our range of squeezable films. These clear and white constructions offer the same excellent conformability, squeezability and resistance against water, oil, and chemicals as our existing PE 85 products, making them the perfect ecodesign alternative for fully squeezable containers and tubes in the home and personal care segments. We're happy to report that through the joint product development process, P&G has successfully integrated our PE 65 label stocks into their Head & Shoulders hair care product range for the Asia Pacific market.
Ecodesigned products, like our thin clear and white PE 65 materials, can also help companies significantly reduce the environmental impacts of their labels and benefit the entire supply chain by optimizing raw material use (more labels per roll for higher efficiency) and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water consumption, and waste.
