Sustainable label manufacturing

At UPM Raflatac, we are committed to ensuring the world-class sustainability in our operations. This means that we develop our processes to reduce the use of resources, and that we find ways to treat any waste also as a resource. It also means that we’re always working to improve our sustainability in regard to environmental, social and economic fields

Improvement and inspiration through Biofore Site™

Biofore Site™ is an inspiring programme to create a culture of sustainability at our label manufacturing sites. It sets goals for continuous site-specific development, which will help us meet UPM’s 2030 responsibility targets and the requirements of ISO 14001. The framework, and site-specific score cards, have been built based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Examples of the Biofore Site programme include encouraging our employees to suggest their own ideas at our manufacturing sites, engaging with local communities, and focusing on leadership and safety to improve the sustainability and the performance of our operations.

Our factories are ISO 14001 certified, meaning that they have implemented an environmental management system (EMS) to manage and improve our environmental performance. We continuously monitor both our environmental impact and our progress towards our goals. We aim to significantly reduce our energy and water consumption, and the amount of waste we generate, and we also aim to reduce our landfill waste to zero by 2030.

Biofore Site is a tangible part of everyday work, and by inspiring our employees to come up with pioneering ideas and initiatives while simultaneously committing to UPM’s 2030 responsibility targets, we can achieve sustainable manufacturing at all levels and make UPM Raflatac the industry sustainability leader and the partner of choice.
