Liners
What factors are involved in choosing a liner?
A silicone layer is added to the top of the liner. The chemistry of the silicone defines the force required to release the adhesive from the liner and is an influential factor when choosing the right product for the right application.
Liners can be divided into five types of materials, glassine, high density, kraft, polyester (PET) and poly-coated kraft (PK).
Glassine liners are uncoated and used whenever transparency is required. UPM Raflatac offers glassine liners for roll stock labels in both honey and white.
UPM Raflatac also offers high density liners for filmic materials. Because of their low thickness deviation and high density, high density liners provide better die cutting of synthetic face stocks compared to glassine or kraft liners.
Kraft liners are coated on one side and are more rigid than either glassine or high-density liners of the same weight. Kraft liners provide a suitable, lay-flat liner that ensures proper feeding in copiers, laser and ink-jet printers for sheetstock applications. UPM Raflatac offers kraft liners in a variety of weights to suit a range of applications.
UPM Raflatac’s clear PET film liners are specially designed for use with clear, film face stocks. PET liners are stronger than either glassine, high density or kraft liners making them an excellent choice for difficult, high-speed applications.
UPM Raflatac’s PK liner is a brown, poly-coated liner designed for applications requiring strength and resistance to moist environments. Both PET and PK liners offer strength and water resistance optimal for wine labeling applications.
