Food and Beverage Labelling

The majority of self-adhesive laminates manufactured by UPM Raflatac are suitable for indirect food labelling and comply with at least one of the following: FDA 175.105; BfR XIV; BfR XV or BfR XXXVI.

Both the Food and Drug Administration, USA (FDA) and BfR Federal Institute for risk assessment in Germany publish lists of chemicals according to their food contact approvals. However, they do not carry out individual product approvals.

There are also special adhesives for direct food contact:

  • RP 36 FG and RP 36 ML conforms to FDA 21 CFR 176.170 and 176.180 for direct contact with dry, aqueous and fatty foods.
  • RH 1 FG conforms to FDA 21 CFR 175.125 for direct contact with dry foods and poultry but not other fatty foods. It is also suitable for application to raw fruit and vegetables.
