Retail Information Labeling

Retail information labeling can be divided into 2 major usages, price marking and catch-weigh labeling. For both, a logo is normally preprinted on a die-cut label with 1 or 2 colors. VIP techniques can be used on preprinted labels, most often by thermal transfer or laser printers. Direct Thermal can also be used when the life of the label is short and if high resistance of the printing is not necessary.

Price marking labels are used in both the food and retail industries. The label is usually pre-printed and die-cut for subsequent application with a handgun over printer/applicator, and used for retail, promotional or special price offers.

For catch-weigh labeling, the label is usually preprinted and die-cut using Chemical Thermal or Thermal Transfer labelstock. To add variable information to food products, these labels pass through a weighing and, generally, a direct thermal printer system.

UPM Raflatac’s Direct Thermal Eco is ideal for short-life, catch-weigh labels stored in dry environments, such as fruit and vegetables. Direct Thermal Top is more suited for difficult applications, such as meat and cheese products, that are stored in moist, cool environments.
