Pharmaceutical and health care labeling

Pharmaceutical labeling is a relatively small segment of the labeling industry, but is characterized by a wide variety of applications. Blood bag labeling, non-migration labels and labels able to withstand sterilization processes are some of the more demanding applicaitons in pharmaceutical labeling.

The imprintability of the face stock is important. Because in pharmaceutical labels must often be traceable, batch numbers and expiration dates are imprinted on the label. When using clear, filmic labels, this imprint is not always easily detectable and so luminescent additives are sometimes added to the adhesive so that special luminescent detectors can detect the imprint.

Based on the results of long-term testing, such as migration studies and stability tests, pharmaceutical companies require special labeling materials for printers. UPM Raflatac provides pharmaceutical companies with technical information documents, approvals and certificates about all available products.

For the pharmaceutical industry, UPM Raflatac offers Pharmagloss face stock, which has been specially designed for labeling products with small diameters and curved surfaces, such as test tubes and bottles.
