Food Labeling

Food labeling is UPM Raflatac’s most diverse segment, with fruit and vegetable labeling making up the largest share of direct food labeling. Food safety standards and regulations required by law such as net content, name and address of the manufacturer, ingredients and nutritional information are a large influence on the construction of the label. All of this accompanies the brand and product identity that manufacturers use to differentiate their products from other products competing on the same shelf.

Food labels must perform in a variety of environments. For example, food labels must resist moisture as well as cold temperatures, while also adhering to uneven surfaces, such as cardboard or synthetic substrates such as oriented polypropylene (OPP), polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET) or polyamine (PA, nylon).

UPM Raflatac’s RP36ML adhesive, available on Litegloss face stock, has been approved for direct food contact with dry or moist fatty foodstuffs. All of UPM Raflatac’s products have been approved for indirect food contact with dry or moist non-fatty foodstuffs.
