Security Labeling

Security labeling covers several areas, including:

  • Tamper evidence
  • Brand protection
  • Theft prevention

Security labels provide a means to combat the growing worldwide problem of product counterfeiting and tampering.

Tamper evident labels for proof of product integrity

Tamper evident labels clearly show, at all points of the supply chain, that a product has retained its integrity and hasn’t been tampered with or contaminated. Examples of suitable label materials for this area include frangible materials and voiding materials

Brand Protection labels for proof of product authenticity

Brand Protection labels come in many forms and are designed to identify labeled items as genuine. They can be divided into two basic groups:

  • Overt types are designed to give an obvious and visible sign of authenticity. Typical examples are holograms.

  • Covert types are designed to hold security features that only the brand owner is aware of or that can be detected only with a special device. Typical examples are invisible fluorescent fibers and luminescent coatings. A high level of security can be attained with DNA taggants, chemical markers or RFID chips.

Anti-theft labels to prevent shrinkage

Anti-theft labels are widely used in the retail environment to prevent shrinkage. Examples include electromagnetic and radio frequency identification labels.
