History
UPM Raflatac was established when the labelstock business of Raflatac and the RFID business of UPM Rafsec were united in the beginning of 2006.
Originally known as Raf. Haarla, UPM Raflatac began production of the pressure sensitive labelstock in the early 1970s in Tampere, Finland. The company’s commitment to finding environmentally sound solutions resulted in new proprietary production technology and the replacement of solvent-based labelling solutions with water-based alternatives. Since then environmental management has been a top corporate priority for UPM Raflatac and a benchmark for the whole industry.
UPM Raflatac has been developing RFID technology since 1997. In less than ten years, the company has grown to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of passive HF and UHF tags and inlays for high-volume applications. As an active member of global standardization bodies, UPM Raflatac is playing an important role in the development of RFID technology. UPM Raflatac's RFID tags and inlays were previously designed and manufactured under company name UPM Rafsec.
Today UPM Raflatac is the leading player in the labelstock and RFID businesses. As part of UPM, one of the largest forest industry companies in the world, UPM Raflatac has access to in-house competencies, wide-ranging R&D expertise and strong support in product research and development.
