Working for a sustainable future
At UPM Raflatac, we aim to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations while also reducing our impact on the environment. In short, we’re aiming for a sustainable future. We hope you share our vision.
By combining the efforts of the entire labeling sector, together we can make a difference to our industry and our environment.
Born to be green
When established in the 1970s, UPM Raflatac created new environmentally sound production technology. This technology, still in use today, introduced water-based solutions to the industry. Ever since, environmental management has been a key corporate priority for UPM Raflatac and the benchmark for the whole industry.
Thinking creatively about label waste
Today, we’re working even harder to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. We try to reduce waste at all stages of our products’ lifecycles, from raw material sourcing, through production and delivery, until final end use and disposal. With the creation of UPM ProFi, we are also turning waste into a resource.
Sourcing sustainable raw materials
We make sure that all our paper raw materials come from responsibly managed forests. This means customers can be assured that the paper-based labelstock purchased from us originates from a well-managed, legally logged forest.
To demonstrate our commitment to the environment, we've pursued not one but three different forestry chain of custody certifications – FSC®, PEFC and SFI®. Our certified label materials make it easy to choose UPM Raflatac as a green partner.
Environmentally sound manufacturing
Being environmentally responsible doesn't stop at sourcing. Our work to develop innovative products goes hand in hand with manufacturing processes designed from the start to be clean and energy efficient. Today, our North Carolina labelstock manufacturing facility, our Illinois labelstock manufacturing facility and all of our factories in Europe, China, South Africa and Australia have successfully developed an Environmental Management System that conforms to the ISO 14001:2004 standard.
Achieving ISO 14001:2004 certification for the design, manufacture, slitting, sheeting and sale of our pressure sensitive labelstock assures our customers and our partners that environmental performance is an essential part of our corporate culture.
