METRO Group

Handling a long distance relationship: You are a giant retailer based in Europe. A large number of your products are manufactured on the other side of the world in China. You want to make your supply chain more efficient and more transparent so you can have better control over the global movement of goods. How do you go about it?

The simple answer is to get in touch with a company that has exceptional knowledge of RFID and the products to match. That’s why METRO Group chose UPM Raflatac when it launched its pioneering project “Advanced Logistics Asia”. Working in conjunction with RSS, ADT Hong Kong and Tyco Fire and Security, the company got down to business streamlining the METRO Group's supply chain management processes.

UPM Raflatac’s key role was to provide its Rafsec EPC G2 ShortDipole RFID inlays for package level testing with different products. Ultimately, the project will show how the flow of goods can be improved from manufacturers in China, via distribution centers in Europe to METRO Group points of sale. Rather than having to check packages individually, a reader at goods receipt gates will be able to tell within seconds if all the products ordered have been delivered.

Unsurprisingly, Edward Lu, UPM Raflatac’s Sales & Marketing Director for APAC, is thrilled at being chosen as a major partner for such a challenging project. “It's an exciting time for us,” he says. “Although only at the pilot stage, the potential of this project for us as a company is clearly evident. Being chosen by METRO Group emphasizes both our expertise in supporting large scale projects and the undeniable quality of our RFID inlays.”

With the help of cutting edge technology, difficult long distance relationships are becoming a thing of the past. If you want to find a way of making your business world smaller, your partners closer and your supply chain clearer, UPM Raflatac is ready to lend a helping hand.
