Hyundai/Kia Motors

A logistical nightmare: The successful manufacturing of your product requires hundreds of parts from more than two hundred different suppliers. Your factory is on the other side of the world and if the exact volume of supplies is even slightly wrong or doesn't arrive at exactly the right time, you have to reschedule your production. This costs you both time and money, meaning you must improve the efficiency of your supply chain. What do you do?

The easy answer is to do what Hyundai/Kia Motors did and find experts who solve problems like this all the time. UPM Raflatac not only develops cutting edge RFID technology but also employs professionals who relish a challenge. Working in collaboration with ECO, Korea’s leading provider of RFID enabled logistics solutions and Glovis, a Hyundai/Kia Motors affiliated logistics company, UPM Raflatac got to grips with the problem.

In the first stage of the project, 130,000 UPM Raflatac UHF RFID tags will be applied to the parts containers destined for the Hyundai/Kia Motor manufacturing plant in Alabama, USA. In the second phase, 20 million tags will be used to track all the automotive parts through the entire supply chain. Once up and running, Hyundai/Kia Motors will benefit from completion reports for each part of the supply chain process. They will also be able to check for errors during repackaging and receive delivery status reports. Put simply, they will know precisely where in the world parts are and precisely when they will arrive.

According to Mr. Jin-Gi Hong, Senior Managing Director of Glovis, the new system will be invaluable in helping Hyundai/Kia Motors become more efficient. “The RFID supply chain management system will make us a more competitive company, globally. Thanks to RFID technology, we can minimize loss from dispatch errors and radically cut costs.”

The facts speak for themselves. If you have a complex supply chain, which spans the globe and you need to make it run like a dream, contact the RFID experts at UPM Raflatac.
