UPM Raflatac increasingly investing in its special products business

(UPM Raflatac, Tampere, September 28, 2007) – The construction work of UPM Raflatac's new state-of-the-art specialty coating line at the company's Tampere factory in Finland is proceeding according to schedule. The new coating line employs the latest proprietary technology and will be up and running in early 2008. Simultaneously, UPM Raflatac is also strengthening its special products development organization and its team of technical experts.

"The investment in new technology, quality development and competence shows that UPM Raflatac is committed to being a strong player in the future development of special products," says Arto Tuomi, General Manager, Special Business, Europe.

"In such a large and diverse market as Europe, there will always be a need for individually customized solutions for special applications," says UPM Raflatac's Paavo Sillanpää, Business Director, Special Business, Europe. "When it comes to developing solutions for entirely new or particularly demanding applications, we are collaborating closely with customers. Within this context our strengthened team of technical experts are playing a vital role."

At Labelexpo Europe 2007, UPM Raflatac is highlighting its following special labelstock products:

Holographic label materials, Holo Sparkling, Holo Tetragon and Holo Rainbow, are ideal for eye-catching and luxury promotional uses. These holographic materials are also an excellent choice for security labelling as the effects are difficult to reproduce.

Optimum 80 is a cost-effective, multidisciplinary performer for food, home care, retail and logistics segment. This new label paper completes UPM Raflatac's existing HP Indigo range.

Raflatyre, Syntyre and Roughtack are products especially designed for labelling tyres and other rough surfaces. The RH-T hot melt adhesive allows these labelling materials to get a firm grip on a wide range of rough substrates in very demanding labelling applications.

The range of PET Durables, PET Clear TC50, PET Matt Silver TC50 and PET White TC50, are durable film products designed for integral product information in consumer durables, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. These materials are thermal transfer printable and tolerate exposure to high temperatures and are chemical and oil resistant.

Product brochures are available on UPM Raflatac's website at www.upmraflatac.com under News and Publications. You can order them in print or download PDF files. The materials are also available from your nearest UPM Raflatac sales office or directly from UPM Raflatac Communications (email: communications@upmraflatac.com).
