UPM Raflatac global RFID tags take the leading position in the latest ODIN benchmark

RFID systems integrator and testing company ODIN Technologies has published an RFID tag benchmark report which focuses on the performance of Gen2 RFID tags with global functionality. The global UHF tags perform well in all three frequency areas: 866-869 MHz in Europe, 902-928 MHz in the USA and 951-954 MHz in Japan.

Altogether 18 different Gen2 tags were tested, among them UPM Raflatac's Frog and DogBone. The tags were tested for:

• read distance
• power effectiveness (ability to exploit interrogator's RFID signal)
• orientation sensitivity
• interference rejection (performance in dense reader environment)

Each product was tested in all three frequency ranges and applied on three different material types: corrugated cardboard, metal and water.

The tags were divided in two different categories based on their footprint: jumbo (footprint > 5.5 square inches) and general purpose (< 5.5 square inches). UPM Raflatac Frog was included in the former category and DogBone in the latter. DogBone outperformed several jumbo inlays, being the leading general-purpose tag and ranked fouth in the total results. Also Frog performed really well, it was ranked second best in the total results. That is, UPM Raflatac had two products in top four.
