RFID ist in der Lage, die globalen Logistikketten zu revolutionieren und das Lieferketten-Management zu verbessern. Größere Einzelhandelsunternehmen und deren Zulieferer kennzeichnen bereits Paletten, Kisten und andere Mehrwegverpackungen, wie Kunststoff-Steigen für frische Nahrungsmittel, mit RFID-Tags. Wieder verwendbare Verpackungen sind Kapitalanlagen, und darum ist ihre vollständige Überwachung wichtig. Die Kennzeichnung der Steigen erlaubt auch ein bessere Vermögensverwaltung.
Die RFID-Technologie fördert das Management durch Sichtbarkeit und echtzeitliche Inventurdaten, um Verfolgbarkeit und Verfügbarkeit zu garantieren. So werden Warenschwund, Piraterie und auch Bestandslücken reduziert.
