UPM Raflatac launches new paper labelstocks and promotes sustainability

28.9.2007

(UPM Raflatac, Tampere, September 28, 2007) – UPM Raflatac is promoting its new paper labelstocks and the range of PEFC Chain of Custody certified products at Labelexpo Europe 2007.

UPM Raflatac's most recent launch introduces a range of paper labelstocks using a new versatile adhesive, RH 9. This hot melt adhesive is specifically designed for food applications, which are often exposed to moisture and a wide variety of temperatures. RH 9 has been developed to be more versatile than other adhesive options. It is effective at a wide range of temperatures, thus promoting the option to select one adhesive for the majority of food applications. UPM Raflatac's RH 9 range covers the Raflacoat, Raflabrite, Thermal Eco 300 and Thermal Top P 200 products.

Thermal Top 200 is a new and improved direct thermal labelstock with a single topside coating. In end-use applications where the risk of product abrasion is high, the latest coating technology provides good topcoat anchorage. Furthermore, it provides a high level of scratch resistance to optimally secure the thermal image throughout the label's life-cycle. Thermal Top 200 has been designed to offer a tailored option for retail and logistics & transport end-uses in dry environments where excellent bar code scannability is key.

Other recent product innovations include Silvervac, a product with a brilliant metallized face giving a premium touch to inspirational label designs, and the whiter and brighter Raflagloss with its high level of opacity and a combination of brilliant resolution, colour reproduction and image definition.

Environmentally sound labelling solutions
UPM Raflatac is also promoting its range of PEFC Chain of Custody certified products. The company has recently achieved PEFC and FSC Chain of Custody certification for labelstock produced at its Scarborough factory in the UK. PEFC (the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) and the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) are the main certification schemes related to the sustainability of wood used for the production of papers. The chain of custody verifies that the wood used in a product originates from sustainably managed and certified forests.

UPM Raflatac's range of PEFC-approved products consist of the Vellum, Raflacoat and Raflabrite materials, which target bulk end-uses such as food, retail and logistics labelling.

Product brochures are available on UPM Raflatac's website at www.upmraflatac.com under News and Publications. You can order them in print or download PDF files. The materials are also available from your nearest UPM Raflatac sales office or directly from UPM Raflatac Communications (email: communications@upmraflatac.com).
