Rafsec launches a new family of transponders suitable for injection moulding processes
27.3.2003Rafsec has introduced a family of packaged RFID transponders, which can withstand the rigours of injection moulding processes. The transponders allow the production of so-called smart plastic crates and pallets where the transponder is embedded within the plastic structure. The transponder package is designed to function for the lifetime of the crate or pallet.
Previously, pool owners interested in using RFID to manage their assets were forced to use exterior mounted transponders, usually in adhesive label format. The drawbacks were that the smart label is easily damaged, has a limited lifespan and therefore periodically needs replacement. The embedded injection moulding transponder can also withstand the harsh rigours of washing and cleaning chemicals.
The embedded transponder gives asset owners complete visibility of their inventory, reducing losses and providing more efficient use of the asset. The transponders can be read/write, which allows information about the contents of the crate or pallet to be written to the transponder if desired.
Rafsec In-Mould Transponders have been tested in a new meat crate solution with Bekuplast, a German injection molding company. Bekuplast's crates offer a new identification solution which solves retailers' and consumers' wish of greater trace ability of meat products through the supply chain.
The Injection Moulding Transponders are initially available with ICs based on the ISO 15693 Standard (13,56MHz) and will soon be available also supporting the ePC protocol both in UHF and HF.
Rafsec specializes in the production and development of card, ticket and label transponders. Rafsec was founded in 1997, and after two years of product development it began the production of RFID transponders in Jyväskylä, Finland. Rafsec's headquarters and product development are located in Tampere, Finland, and the company also has a sales office in London, Chicago and Singapore.
Bekuplast GmbH, with its head office in Ringe in Germany, is a leading producer of transport and storage containers made from plastic. With more than 120 employees, Bekuplast achieved a turnover of EUR 22 Mio in 2002.
