UPM Raflatac introduces new UHF item-level tag and inlay offering based on Impinj near-field and far-field technologies

16.4.2008

UPM Raflatac is expanding its UHF EPC Class1 Gen2 item-level product portfolio with near-field and far-field technologies from Impinj. Based on the standardized global protocol ISO 18000-6C and a broadband antenna design, these item-level tags and inlays promote the proliferation of item-level tagging in all frequencies around the world. Operating under the principles of near-field magnetic coupling or a combination of near-field and far-field radiation, UPM Raflatac's tags and inlays with Impinj’s Monza™ chips offer reliable performance across both long and short read ranges.

UPM Raflatac is launching three different products with near-field and far-field sensitivity at RFID Journal Live! in Las Vegas: the Button™, PaperClip™ and Satellite™. Sample quantities of each are available immediately.

UPM Raflatac Button™
- die-cut size round 13 mm (round 0.51")
- item-level product for pharmaceutical vials as well as document and asset tracking
- ideal for hard to read items with short read range requirements
- available as wet and dry inlays

UPM Raflatac PaperClip™
- die-cut size 11 x 20 mm, (0.43 x 0.79")
- ideal for pharmaceutical, industrial and media management applications
- available as wet and dry inlays

UPM Raflatac Satellite™
- die cut size 36 x 22 mm (1.42 x 0.87")
- item-level product for general purpose applications with short to medium read range requirements
- ideal for tagging garments and item-level pharmaceutical packaging
- available as wet and dry inlays as well as paper-faced tags

"We are very excited to help UPM Raflatac bring UHF item-level tagging technology into production, leveraging a single RFID infrastructure that provides critical competitive and logistical advantages in item-level identification, authentication and traceability," says Mendy Ouzillou, Senior Director RFID Marketing at Impinj.

"Impinj's near-field and far-field technologies and technical resources have allowed us to enhance our UHF Gen2 product portfolio and compliment our current HF offering. We are pleased to announce the launch of these new products and solidify our commitment to be the global number one in RFID tagging," says Jan Svoboda, Sales & Marketing Director, Americas at UPM Raflatac.
