PE Matt Transparent 80 for personal care

22.10.2003

Raflatac’s latest product for the personal care market, PE Matt Transparent 80, is a transparent, matt-coated, corona-treated polyethylene film. PE Matt Transparent 80 has been designed for product labelling in applications where resistance against water, oil and chemicals is important, as with the labelling of shampoo bottles and cosmetics.

Markku Pietarinen, Product Manager for Raflatac comments, “Raflatac has invested extensively to produce innovative and effective materials for the personal care market. Matt filmic materials play an important role in our product offering. We are continuously developing our matt grades, both in the polyethylene and polypropylene segments.”

As the name indicates, PE Matt Transparent 80 is an 80-micron face stock, one of the lightest filmic products available on the market. This lightweight construction cuts down on product waste during the converting process and in turn reduces the overall cost to the end-user. The weight of the product also makes it more conformable to a variety of containers, from the traditional to the unique, while the flexibility of the material makes it ideal for squeezable containers like those used for lotions, body washes and hair care products.

PE Matt Transparent 80 has been constructed to provide end-users with the no-label look currently in vogue in the personal care industry. The matt level of the product is somewhat lower than traditional matt-coated products, making the material more of a ‘semi-matt’ product that provides the kind of no-label look that blends into a variety of matt containers.

As with many films, the product is suitable for and performs well with a variety of printing methods, from flexography to letterpress to offset. Used in combination with Raflatac’s RP 37 adhesive and HD70 backing, the product construction has been tested and performs well on various printing machines and dispensing lines.

“Our customers have found the look, or matt level, of the product fitting for several home and personal care products, giving their own products a trendy image and feel. The printability of the material has proved to offer the high quality required for the professional labels many of our customers are looking for. The product has been used for various applications already, and volumes are growing positively with new customers as well as new end-use applications,” remarks Pietarinen.
