Unique! Totally phenol-free product complements BPA-free Thermal Eco grades
The European Food Safety Authority has stated that according to the available information, Bisphenol A (BPA) in direct thermal labels poses no risk to human health.
However, public speculation over BPA’s health effects has prompted some retail chains to move away from BPA, which is used as a colour developer in thermal papers including cashier receipts. Other retailers are seeking to take all phenols out of circulation. How will you respond when these retailers come to you?
Most public concern over phenols relates to the health effects of BPA in products and containers that cause direct contact between BPA and food. The European Commission, for example, has announced a ban on BPA in plastic baby bottles.
The debate continues over the possibility that BPA can be absorbed through the skin from receipts and labels, and what safe levels might be.
But that hasn’t stopped retailers from taking the precautionary step of sourcing BPA-free receipt papers, handled by cashiers in volume and also by the shopping public.
Some retailers apply the same reasoning to self-adhesive price-weigh labels applied to bags of produce by consumers and scanned at the checkout.
At UPM Raflatac, we seek to stay at the forefront in all environmental and health related issues. We now offer BPA-free and phenol-free alternatives to traditional thermal labelstock.
BPA-free thermal ECO papers – also certified sustainable
The following products feature a BPA-free thermal face paper, which is also responsibly sourced:
Totally phenol-free – join us as the first onto market!
While the main concern for retailers has been the absorption particularly of Bisphenol A (BPA) into the skin through cash receipts, some retail chains are seeking to withdraw from phenols completely. We have a unique new product to match this requirement:
This is the first ever phenol-free direct thermal pressure sensitive product on the market, where developer function is achieved using different chemistry to that based on various phenol raw materials. When retail customers approach you, what options will you be able to put on the table? What will that difference mean for your order volumes?
Both our BPA-free and totally phenol-free labelstocks have the same high quality, thermal printing properties, service and availability as our standard Thermal ECO grades.
