Electrophotographic and inkjet technologies
The primary digital roll-to-roll label printing technologies are electrophotographic and inkjet.
- The digital market leader is HP Indigo, which uses liquid toner based electrophotography to produce high-quality print results on dedicated HP Indigo labelstock.
- Xeikon uses dry toner based electrophotography. Like HP Indigo, Xeikon has been present on the digital market from the beginning. A key benefit of Xeikon is that, in most cases, conventional printing media can be used.
- UV inkjet systems are emerging technologies expected to see continuing advances in quality and reliability. UV inkjet performance is rapidly improving to encourage a good market uptake due to the balance of speed, print result and printability it offers on standard materials.
