RafCycle for sustainable labelstock waste management
Environmental sustainability is a cornerstone of all operations at UPM Raflatac. We take into account environmental impacts at all stages of our products’ lifecycle – from sourcing, production, delivery and product use, to recycling, reuse or disposal of the product.
In 2005 we started looking for solutions to reuse the waste generated during the lifecycle of self-adhesive labelstock. This resulted in the development of the RafCycle concept for the collection and reuse of labelstock waste as a raw material, instead of sending it to landfill.
RafCycle aims to provide the self-adhesive label industry with an environmentally sound alternative for the disposal of matrix and liner waste from
- laminate production
- label printing and die-cutting
- label dispensing
The collected labelstock waste is used mainly as raw material for UPM ProFi® products – for example patio decking and floor tiles – and in other sustainable waste recovery processes.
Recycling PP liner waste in Europe
Since 2007, UPM Raflatac has been collecting waste from its European factories for use as raw material in the production of UPM ProFi products.
Now RafCycle is also available for PP liner from our customers and end-users as well. In the future, the RafCycle service is planned to cover also collection of paper liner and matrix waste.
