Sustainable wine labels help you reach your environmental targets

UPM Raflatac is a forerunner in sustainability and we work hard to reduce the environmental impact of our products. We also develop sustainable solutions that transform label waste into resources.

We take environmental factors into consideration in both what we do and how we do it. We use the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with products over their entire lifecycle.

Reducing environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle

The raw materials for our FSC® and PEFC™-certified paper-based products are sourced from certified, responsibly managed forests – your guarantee that the wood raw materials are from sustainable and legal sources. You can proudly display the FSC or PEFC logo on your labels when you use these certified papers, demonstrating your commitment to sustainable forest management.

For our PP and PET products, we’re introducing thinner and lighter products to reduce the environmental burden while maintaining optimal technical performance and maximum aesthetic appeal.

Our washable adhesives increase bottle recyclability, and the release liner materials we use – papers, PET, and PP – are also commercially recyclable. In addition to the release liner, by-products from labelstock coating and slitting, as well as from label printing, are transformed into sustainable and innovative UPM ProFi composite products for decking and facade applications.

Reducing waste with RafCycle®

With the RafCycle concept and UPM’s extensive collection network, used liner from label dispensing is no longer waste.

In Italy, 25 wine producers take part in RafCycle and have so far reduced CO2 equivalents by an estimated 1.5 million kilograms. Every year we celebrate the continued success of the RafCycle recycling concept at a gala dinner together with participating customers.
