Oil and industrial chemical labels for toughness and compliance

Oil and industrial chemical labels are the toughest of the tough. Not only must they withstand exposure to oil or chemicals, but they often label products stored outdoors or in challenging environments. Both face material and adhesive must last and last, often for years of usage, while their printed image must be clear and readable to ensure user safety even in the face of heat, oxidation, water, and UV light.

UPM Raflatac – tough labels for oil and industrial chemical

Labels for industrial chemical containers are usually large, as they warn users of any hazards posed by the product ingredients. Oil can labels on the other hand need to promote both the brand and the product. Both are subject to international and national regulations.

The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is an internationally agreed-upon UN recommendation for how to classify and label products.

British Standard BS5609 establishes standards for self-adhesive labels intended for marine use, such as those used on chemical drums. Companies throughout Europe carefully follow this regulation’s provisions to ensure that dangerous goods transported by sea are durably labeled and identified, and remain so even after lengthy immersion in seawater. We offer several products that are compliant with this standard.
