UPM Raflatac RFID tags enable innovative CD/DVD solutions22.10.2007
UPM Raflatac, CDA, Brooks Automation and Stora Enso Digital Solutions have launched a new CD/DVD solution featuring an integrated RFID tag. Discs from CDA come with a uniquely identifiable UPM Raflatac HF RFID tag, while the other two parties bring the solution to completion. Brooks manufactures RFID readers and integrates them into end-users’ processes. Stora Enso Digital Solutions offers digitally printed and personalized DBS Discbox Slider CD/DVD boxes made 100% from cardboard.
The CD/DVD solution comes with a unique ID number, data storage capacities and personalized packaging. The companies emphasize their flexibility to address the market with various lot sizes starting from 500 units. Pricing per RFID disc varies from 2.30 euros for a standard version to 4 euros for a high-end finish and customized shaping.
The solution enables new applications in anti-counterfeiting and inventory management, and it is already in use as a ticketing solution. Event organizers and sports clubs, for example, are now able to distribute media content on the RFID/DVD ticket itself. End-users will benefit from this innovation by receiving information about cross-selling initiatives, bonus music tracks, games, movies and trailers from sponsors, to name only a few possibilities
