The sustainable label value chain

At UPM Raflatac, we aim to make labels a visible and sustainable part of the lifecycle of all products. To accomplish this, we need to engage a vast network of people and organizations working in fields from raw material sourcing to packaging and design.

Making sustainability an easier choice makes us a preferred partner

Customers, end-users, raw material suppliers, environmental organizations and associations have a strategic role in our business from product development to end of life as well as turning our sustainability goals into a reality.

We provide easy-to-use tools to give our partners a holistic understanding of how labels impact their processes and to reduce their environmental footprint by making sustainable choices.

We invite you to choose us as your partner on the journey to a sustainable, smarter future.

Labels matter from raw materials to end-of-life

We work to develop a more sustainable business through lifecycle thinking. We do this by focusing on responsible sourcing, efficient operations, product performance and the end-of-life solutions that we offer to our customers and brand owners. Our goals at every stage in the label value chain are to minimize negative environmental impact and maximize positive societal impact.

When we say responsible sourcing, we mean that our supply chain, including all raw material categories, is covered by our responsible sourcing framework including the supplier code and takes people, safety and the environment into consideration.

Our label manufacturing takes place in our ISO 14001 certified factories. We use UPM Raflatac’s proprietary Biofore Site™ framework to create a culture of sustainability in our factories and facilities. Our focus areas are aligned with the UN Sustainability Development goals, and we set our own goals and report the results on factors like energy consumption, water usage, and waste accordingly.

We take responsibility for our actions and our impact on society wherever we operate. For example, we manage our activities towards our employees, contractors, suppliers, local communities, customers and consumers. Being socially responsible is crucial for a smarter future.
